The landscape design and layout for The Pier was derived conceptually as the meeting and intersection of two systems –the manmade urban infrastructure system of the architecture’s straight lines merging with the organic natural system of the Singapore river’s “wave-lines”. Thus the landscape spaces and landscape elements are organized with fluid organic curvilinear forms shaping the landscape deck and water bodies, flowing towards the buildings. These “wave” forms are expressed horizontally in plan layout as well as vertically in 3-dimensional elements like the trellis, the pool vanishing edge and glass feature elements.
To enhance the ground level arrival and entrance experience, a semi-enclosed water court vertically links the 2nd level with the ground level with water gliding down from above over the glass feature wall backdrop.
Externally along the river promenade, the paving is also expressed as a series of wave form plant beds and cobblestone paving beds within a sea of brick that ties in with the surrounding finishes.
