China Square Central« Back to Projects Listing | Print
The landscape at China Square Central took into consideration the urban complexities of a large commercial site in the heart of the CBD/Chinatown area consisting of both old (existing conservation shop houses) and new (office towers and basement carparks). The Square in China Square Central is anchored in the centre by a “sliced” glass and steel waterfeature. The waterfeature is designed to be ephemeral- in that when the parabolic jets are turned on it projects a large 3-dimensional vertical form in the centre of the open space which disappears when the jets are turned off.

From the open Square, the design transforms from animated, hip and modern to reserved and stately, as befitting the context of the very different styles of the Architecture. As such, from the ordered geometric planting of the Square, softer tranquil garden spaces for the “live-work” environment of the shop houses with lush planting diversity were created. This is then followed by a change of character at the atrium of Great Eastern Centre that addresses purely by a formal carpet of landscape finishes of floor “stars”, organized in a grid-iron pattern with the light dancing off the reflection, kinetically animating the space.
