Far East Square« Back to Projects Listing | Print
The urban landscape design at Far East Square is best described as an encapsulation of Past, Present and Future of Chinese culture at a point in time. The basis for the landscape design and organization of the site is the fundamental and traditional Oriental principles of the “Five Elements” central to Chinese philosophy and cultural tradition. This is conceptually expressed in a diagram of the site plan. The design challenge was not to imitate or replicate traditional Chinese forms or culture without change, but to reach back through time, distill its essence and transform it in a manner suitable for the 21st century.

The overall result is a Yin and Yang of tradition and funk; East and West; Old and New; serenity and energy, one reinforcing and giving life to the other. The other elements of the urban landscape design seek to strengthen this overall conceptual and organizational framework in terms of the modern application of traditional elements of symbolism, color, and form.
