India Glycols Office is a 5-storey building that responds to square grids, designed with series of landscape courtyards from upper basement to 2nd level. The challenge of landscape design is to create a core element that holds courtyards from different levels together, yet giving each courtyard a subtle character.
With respect to the architecture grids, the idea of landscape is to create significant graphic layers that tie all courtyards from different levels. As the core elements, the water circles the heart of building in separate levels and also various forms such as water jets platform, reflective pool and lily ponds. Then 2 linear rows of trees from separate levels surround the center water features as secondary element. The 2 major layers are further craved with lighting troughs, water cubes, fern garden, gravels court, timber deck and trellis. When viewing from upper storey, the landscape is divided into 2 distinct zones of water and planting, which fully complements the building sculptural quality.
Virtual connection aside, each landscape courtyard is designed with specific function that relates to rooms of different levels. For instance, the timber deck and water wall at basement courtyard are composed to set up outdoor dining ambiance that serves the canteen. The trellis and interactive jets at 2nd level next to the main conference room are catered for office celebration events, party and gathering activities.
Overall, the landscape of Glycols office is designed to make the office an identical and pleasant working place, softened with layers of water features and tree grooves, but maintaining the flexibility for active events at the same time.
